Welcome.

I’m a storyteller. Outsiders, subcultures, and the mysteries of beyond have inspired me since an early age. My work explores these realms and the people in them whose extraordinary true stories, archives and art leave us with new ways of seeing. My immersive yet reflective point of view has led me to create works of distinction in film, book publishing, and art curation.

I directed and produced the feature documentary THE SOURCE FAMILY (2012) and recently premiered my new feature documentary WELCOME, SPACE BROTHERS (2023) on The Unarius Academy of Science.

In what feels like another lifetime, I was a commercial, editorial and rock band photographer and music video director, working with artists like REM, Sparks, and Vincent Gallo while visiting and documenting alternative spiritual communities and self-taught visionary artists.

I cofounded book publishing companies Dilettante Press (1998), Process Media (2004), and Otherworld (2022), editing several award-winning books and most recently co-authoring the illustrated book FAMILY: THE SOURCE FAMILY SCRAPBOOK (2022, Otherworld with Sacred Bones).

I’ve curated or co-curated art exhibitions for The American Visionary Art Museum, Deitch Projects, Nicodim Gallery and others. I’ve curated film and cultural programs in several cities and in the UK.

In 2021, I was invited to guest co-edit a special issue for the Religious Studies Review (the premiere review journal for religious studies media) titled “New Religious movements and Documentary Film,” which is being used as a guide for university professors teaching this topic.

Speaking engagements

I love to share ideas and knowledge, and I’ve presented my work at several universities in departments of film, art, religious studies, folklore, and American studies. I’ve presented talks at University of Southern California, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins, Emerson College, Kenyon College, Cal Arts, Otis College of Art and Design, Ohio University, Gregg Museum, University of Oregon, Maryland Institute of the Arts, Denison, 72 and Sunny Day, ArtSlant, South By Southwest Film Festival, and others.
